Memories of Captain's Pool Hall

Bobby and Mary Mosley's dad ran a pool hall on Hillsborough street near the corner of Hillsborough and Oberlin Rd. For some reason everyone called him "Captain" although I never knew why.  Maybe he had a fishing boat at the beach. I remember they had a cottage there.  I gambled away a lot of lunch money playing pool every day after school at Broughton.  I road my bike to school for a couple of years some times with Rusty Peatrea & Randy Rabb (Randy has lived in San Diego for a long time...looked he and Walter up when I was transferred there while in the Navy. He is a private pilot. He and Walter Keezle moved there back in the 70's to surf.) Andy Caldwell road his bike with us some times. We'd pick him up on Hillsborough at the NCSU Chancellor's house where he lived.  I left my bike outside one afternoon unlocked like we all did, and when I came out to leave it was gone... never saw the bike again.  I started using chains and locks after that.

121 people have read this and not one reply...seems weird to me??  Just came back from visiting my sister in Edenton, stopped in Raleigh for one night to stay with my niece and her family.  The PR is still going strong, but the whole block has changed...and so has Hillsboro St.  The building that used to house the Subway Tavern and the popular restaurant above it are gone.  Traffic is horrendous!
