Jimmy was my very first boyfriend back at Daniels. He lived in our extended neighborhood so I spent some time with Jimmy and Stan Edmundson back then. He was a really nice guy! Sorry to hear of his passing

I recall that Jimmy must have had polio as he grew up in our neighborhood with braces on both legs. He never once let this get him down. He played tackle football, basketball, etc. Sounded like a clydesdale horse when he ran, but he was still faster than Steve Ogburn. An inspiration.

I too remember Jimmy from Mrs. Ligon's, was also in Sunday School with him from kindergarten on up through high school. He always had a smile on his face, was a high-spirited little kid. You're right about the leg brace not slowing him down. According to his obit, Jimmy led a full life and had many interests. RIP

Like so many others, I was in Sunday School with Jimmy at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.

Always cheerful with a ready smile.  Blessings to his family.  DA

The first time I encountered Jimmy Barnes was at Daniels in Mr. Scott’s 7th grade class.  It did not take long for james  to establish his role as ourJerry Lewis character, much to Mr. Scott’s chargrin.  Jimmie’s physical impairment never altered his zest for life & was a  very positive example for all of us to appreciate how well he he handled the hand he was dealt.  Have nothing but fond memories of his.antics & fun nature!  John Welch
