Teams lined up for the national anthem before the game.  Jesse Jones vs.  ?  My CRS prohibits the recollection of the oposing team's name.  I think it was some type of business machine company.  If you can remember any of the team names let me know which ones you remember.  I think I see Doc Kornegay close to home base.  I believe he was their catcher. Thanks.

That's my team Adams Bryan Cooper, coached by Mr.Page and Mr. Cato.....The teams in the JC Little League were:  (Adams) Bryan Cooper, Jones Sausage (Jessie Jones), Raleigh Office Supply, Cameron Brown, and Coca Cola......

Exciting days playing under the lights at JC Park, new baseball shoes from Johnson Lamb, my gray uniform with red piping and cap, a jawful of Bazooka bubble gum, a freshly-oiled Mickey Mantle glove, holding down the hot corner for Bryan Cooper, a Coca Cola power hitter at the plate, proud parents and a patient little sister in the stands....And those great milk shakes at the L&M afterwards (win or lose)  :-)  Remember the L&M?

I see Johnny Godwin, Daniel Carol, Grey Hall, Dock Kornegay, John Martin our catcher must be down there, Rabbit Giles, Martin Fesmire, Johnny Hawkins, Jake Reynolds.....I think I'm standing beside Dock--he was our pitcher/ first baseman/center fielder.  Or maybe beside Daniel Carol and Coach Page....

We were a bunch of Moochies  :-)

What a memory you have. I remember those people now that you have named them all. I remember that red clay was really hard to get out of the uniforms. I think we were the only team to have wool uniforms...how uncomfortable they were..ridiculous!! I was ready to change teams because of that. Thanks for the memories. Yes I do remember the Long Meadow dairy bar. I have pics of Camp Durant. I did my mile swim on the lake there to get my merit badge. I was a Life scout. Never made it to Eagle. I always wanted to go to Philmont ranch in NM. You were a scout too weren't you? What troop? I was in 316..St. Michael's Episcopal church.

Troop 326 out of the Ridge Road Baptist Church.  I wasn't quite as industrious as you--bit of a slacker I was at Camp Durant.  Spent the afternoons at the 22-range taking target practice, shirking merit badge classes, certainly not mile-swimming in Durant Lake :-)

I remember that game....Last one before the play-offs....Coach Page asked me to pitch (my first time).  Rain washed out the lines and the crowd was sparse at first until night fell and the lights came on.  Note the Bermuda shorts.  I think the lady on the far left with her daughter is flicking her cigarette.

I went three full then muffed a bunt and walked the next two batters to load the bases and was ushered hastily back over to third base--the end of my pitching career.  John Martin caught my last pitch--high and outside.  Alas  :-)

Danny,  You are quite gracious about that game.  You were pitching great, but we failed to provide adequate fielding support.  I still feel guilty about muffing that grounder to me in center field and having to run to the fence to retrieve it.  You were always so good at third base that Mr. Page and Mr Cato finally decided that we couldn't do without you there.  My apology for letting you down.

Hey Dock,

You are the gracious one.  Don't remember Dock Kornegay fumbling any grounders.  You were the best player on our team and our ace on the mound.  Wish I could have played one more season with you guys.  Remember your father calling the next season to tell me about your homerun--that fence at J.C. Park was an imposing barrier for us little guys.

Remember my first season when we beat Coke two or three times.  The next season we didn't support you as their ace (Dennis Johns) mowed us down.  The following year you guys mowed them down with your pitching and Martin Fesmire's homeruns. :-)  Those sure were fun times.

I was always a little skiddish playing up close for the bunt with a power hitter at the plate, and facing those hard up-and-in pitches when batting.  But we all grew a little back then playing baseball at J.C. Park, just like we did when a stern Mrs. Fountain called us to the front of her history class to answer a question from our reading--my knees were shaking :-)

Still playing that French Horn?

Danny
