My house on Lake Boone Trail was just a short distance to the new belt line that was being constructed.  Kidd's dad bought him a Cobra. I don't think he even had his driver's license at the time.  He took it out on the belt line before it was officially opened.  Jamie Hamilton and I sat on the Glen Eden Dr. bridge that went over the belt line and watched him drive that car at over 100mph under the bridge.  The sound of that car when it passed under the bridge was incredible.  I am sorry that I never really got to know him very well.  Rest In Peace!

Pierce Oliver Brewer Jr. was his real name.  I was just reading about his dad, Pierce Oliver Brewer Sr.  I had no idea he was an All-American quarterback at Duke University.  He was coach and athletic director at Appalachian State Univ. before moving to Raleigh.  ASU named their football stadium after him.  He served in the Navy during WW II which made him one of my shipmates.  I went to Kiddo's house(Belle Acres) a couple of times and I remember his sister Linney. She passed away a five years after Kiddo.  Kidd Sr. died a year after Kiddo at the age of 83. I never went to the Crossroads Restaurant that was built from their homesite.  Now I wish I had.....just a bit of Raleigh history for your knowledge.
